"Electronic map of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in Ukraine"

Commissioned by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Softline JSC has developed the software "Electronic Map of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in Ukraine".

The map was shown during the presentation of the National Book of Memory (attended by the President of Ukraine). The aim of the system was to create software tools for generating, accumulating, storing and visualizing the electronic map data.

The software makes it possible to visualize information on an electronic map that shows both the current oblast boundaries and those as of 1933. The program lets users search for a settlement either visually, by navigating the map, or hierarchically: by selecting an oblast from a list (the map immediately zooms to the selected oblast), then a district (the map shows the district), and then the settlement. The "Electronic Map of the Holodomor of 1932–1933 in Ukraine" contains historical background, current population figures, population data from the 1926, 1934 and 1939 censuses, the number of people who died in the Holodomor, a list of the victims by name, eyewitness accounts and copies of documents. The system allows users to add information.

The software developed by Softline JSC has been implemented at the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory and will soon be available to the general public on the website, both for reference and for feedback.
